GulfSentinel started as a dashboard I threw together for friends on X (@penwrangler) who, like me, were constantly refreshing news tabs trying to make sense of what was happening in the Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea, and the broader Middle East energy situation.
Instead of wading through articles, I wanted a single glance — is Hormuz still open? Which tankers are in trouble? Who has declared force majeure this week? Are there new export bans that could hit global supply chains?
It was never meant to be a serious news operation. It's a hobby project, built for a small group of friends keeping an eye on a complicated corner of the world. If it's useful to you too, great.
This is a personal hobby project. All data is sourced automatically from public news and is approximate, delayed, and sometimes wrong. The AI extraction process is imperfect — entities may be misidentified, statuses may lag real-world events, and capacity figures are estimates.
Nothing on this site is financial, operational, investment, or navigational advice. Always verify critical information with official sources, port authorities, and your own due diligence.
Built and maintained by @penwrangler on X. Follow along there for context and commentary on what the dashboard is showing. If you find it useful and want to help keep the lights on, buy me a coffee.
